As a health coach and small business owner, you’re probably the CEO, CFO, and head of marketing all rolled into one. And when it comes to content creation, you’re the chief content creator, too!

As a result, even the most seasoned writer can feel stuck sometimes. It happens to everyone. News flash — you can use tried-and-true brainstorming techniques to jumpstart the creative process and get those ideas flowing again.

*Psst…this post is #2 in the Health Coaching Content Strategy blog series. If you missed the first post, head here to check it out!*

Freewriting

The first step in freewriting is to set a timer for a specific amount of time, around ten minutes, and start writing. It doesn’t matter what you write about. Just start putting words on the page, my friend.

The goal is to simply go and prevent your mind from wandering. Once the timer goes off, read over what you’ve written. You may be surprised at the ideas that come through when you let yourself just write without overthinking it!

Brainstorm with a Partner

Brainstorming with someone is very helpful — whether a colleague, friend, or family member. Brainstorming with someone else gives you a fresh perspective and helps you develop innovative ideas.

Keep a List of Ideas Handy

One way to avoid writer’s block is always to have a list of ideas handy. That way, you have a starting point when you sit down to write. For example, this could be a list of topics you want to write about, people you want to interview, or ideas for blog post series.

Keep your list handy in a cloud notepad so that you can add to it whether you’re at home at your desktop or on the go with your phone!

Take a Break

If you’ve been staring at the computer screen for hours and still don’t have anything written down, it might be time to take a break. Get away from your work and do something else for a little while.

Go for a walk, read a book, or watch a movie. Sometimes taking a break and returning to it with fresh eyes is the best way to move forward.

Try a Different Format

If you typically write blog posts, try something different, like recording a video or podcast or writing a LinkedIn article. Sometimes switching up the format to jumpstart your creativity is all it takes to get the creative content juices flowing.

Use Prompts or Done-for-You or Private Label Rights Content

If you’re really struggling to come up with ideas, try using prompts. There are tons of writing prompts online, or you can come up with your own. Once you have a prompt, set a ten-minute timer, and start writing. This can help to get the ideas flowing.

Done-for-You and PLR content can also give you major a leg up on your content. From social media post, infographics, sales pages, opt-in email sequences, to full online health coaching courses, pre-written content is ready to publish as-is or waiting for you to add your special touch to!
